One of my coworkers got his Sunfire repossessed last year. He bought it a year before that for - wait for it - $7,000. He had already paid like $ 4k by the time it got repoed . Some people just shouldn’t be allowed to use money.

Preaching here, half this forum is really bad with money. For many, it’s hard to separate short term happiness for long term prosperity.

How on E arth do you spend $7000 on a Sunfire (which can’t have been less than a dozen years old)?

I understand it can be hard to get credit (especially if you are the sort of person who would spend $7000 on a Sunfire), but shop around a little, buy a beater, whatever.

I could buy three of mine, more than three times each. All of which were way better than a Sunfire.

Funny that I’ve bought 3/4 of my cars for $600 each and then the other one is just sliiiiightly higher at $10,000.

Are all of the Sunfires left on this earth worth $7k in total?

It’s not nice to criticize , but man really needs to make better decisions.

Exactly! He replaced it with a $500 Grand Am which is in better condition with fewer miles. I definitely think he must have bought the Sunfire as a sort of “ credit repair” situation.

That would be a pretty cool way to start a budget spec racing series.

I remember a friend in college having a Sunfire. 17 years ago.

It’s kinda self regulating in a way.  People who shouldn’t be allowed to use money end up with none.  Unfortunately, then lenders give them more and our entire economy ends up paying for it. :/

The kid haulers were both new. The miata and tundra combined are about 7k. Combined 30 years and 400k miles, but still.

My $3,000 Subaru Outback was a repo. The previous owner ow ed $9,000 on it! I really hope that's not what they paid for it. I'm thinking they rolled another loan into it.

You can legit buy a half a dozen decent ones for $7k.

Buying a Sunfire is not a decision made for short term happiness. The only consideration  that goes into that is “my daughter is going away to college, I should maybe get her a car, but not something too nice, in case she wrecks it”.
